If you are a movie buff like me, then this Independence Day, tune into Zee Classic. At 9.00am in the morning, the channel will be premiering the 1964 Hindi classic war-film, Haqeeqat, directed by Chetan Anand.
Well I know for a fact that there are many classic movies I’ve yet to watch. And Haqeeqat is definitely going to be one of the top few films in my list that I plan to watch this year. The movie is based on the 1962 Sino-Indian War and won the National Film Award for second Best Feature Film in 1965. The film stars Balraj Sahni, Dharmendra, Priya Rajvansh, Sudhir, Sanjay Khan and Vijay Anand.
It’s got a very Casablanca vibe going on, don’t you think? And boy oh boy! Dharmendra looks so good! It was no wonder he was called the poster boy for Hindi cinema in the 1960s.
The main plot of Haqeeqat concerns a small platoon of Indian soldiers in the hilly terrain of Ladakh who are considered dead but are rescued by Ladakhi tribesmen and by Capt. Bahadur Singh, played by Dharmendra.
And if that is not enticing enough, let me tell you that the film has several notable songs that we hum even till today.
Sung by Mohammed Rafi, the song “Kar Chale, Hum Fidaa, jaan-o-tan” has become synonymous with patriotism in India.
And I’m 100% sure that a lot of you will remember the soulful “Zara Si Aahat Hoti Hai To Dil Sochta Hai” by Lata Mangeshkar.
All the songs were written by Kaifi Azmi and the music for the film was composed by Madan Mohan.
Well, it’s amazing to see that Zee Classic is bringing such gems from the past – not just for film lovers but also youngsters in general. I wish the channel gives us more such opportunities to view classic old films. As for this film, I am also quite excited to get a different insight concerning the Indo-China war, that happened way back in the sixties. So this independence day, lets salute the countless soldiers whose sacrifices are still keeping us safe. #ZeeClassicSalutesSoldiers
