Grandmama’s café – Review

Living in Mumbai for over 3 years now, I have come to realise that this city is always bustling with energy. Whether on the roads, in the markets, in restaurants and of course the clubs, you’ll rarely find Mumbai down on energy. And while all that is great and I love the fact that this city never sleeps, I often crave for some ‘me-time’ in tucked away, quaint and really quiet cafes where the ambiance can be more intriguing and conversations aren’t drowned away in clutter.  There a few of my favourite sweet spots and adding on to this list today is the newly launched Grandmama’s café in Juhu. Those of you who follow me on Facebook would know that I had earlier reviewed Grandmama’s café (Dadar branch) for my TV show Aspire on Bloomberg Television. This was back in 2015 and I told you how much I was impressed. This time round, I got invited to their Juhu branch and I felt equally at home!

Grandmama’s café in Juhu looks like a small vintage bunglow from the outside and once you step in, you will be greeted by very European styled curios, bookshelf, sofas and chairs, a departure from the industrial chic restaurants we are tired of seeing in the city. The café opens daily from 10am till about 10pm. The menu in the new locale serves fresh pizzas, melt-in-your mouth pastas, cheesy risottos, and the Spicy Chicken Sausage Pizza. In terms of beverages, Grandmama’s café serves up an array of its signature alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

I personally loved the artsy and old world charm of the café. In terms of the food, I loved the cutting chai and the homestyle cooked rajma chawal. As the name defines, Grandmama’s café really exudes a homely vibe coupled with scrumptious feel good soul food, which is rare to find in Mumbai.

And since food and fashion have always walked hand in hand, I had to pick a look that would blend in perfectly with the vintage ambience of the café. Thanks to Vero Moda, I had this beautiful printed maxi dress for my lunch at Grandmama’s café. I kept the accessories limited to a wrist charm as I didn’t want to overdo it. In addition to that, the dress was very comfortable and I felt like a damsel, right out of a French movie! Not to forget the food just made it perfect! I highly recommend you visit the Grandmama’s café.
