4 Unusual Ways Bollywood Celebs Lose Weight

Bollywood celebrities have always been such a major force in this country – we like them, hate them but can’t quite ignore them and just like us, these Bollywood celebrities also come in a variety of body shapes and sizes. The only difference is – when we’re looking to drop a few fast kilos, we head to the gym maybe thrice a week, cut down on junk for a month or two, do yoga & green tea etc  – basically we follow the standard weight loss tips which everyone knows by now.

But when it comes to the Bollywood celebrities, they spend a good part of their lives (and fortune) focusing on intense weight loss regimens.  Sometimes, however, they take it to extremes that are just plain crazy.

Tummy tucks & Liposuctions

Cosmetic procedures to lose weight aren’t new in Bollywood anymore. To name a few – actors like Ayesha Takia, Farah Khan, Surveen Chawla, Aamir Khan, Sridevi & even Malaika Arora have been rumoured to have undergone either a tummy tuck or liposuction. While most have chosen to remain mum about the same, only Farah has openly admitted to her tummy tuck!  It’s true that both these procedures give effective results but doctors only recommend them as last resorts. Why? Because there a number of risks.  You can develop infections, swelling, anesthesia risks or even death. Telugu actor Aarthi Agarwal died of cardiac arrest after a failed liposuction surgery and so did Gadar actor Vivek Shaq after going through a liposuction. So, one needs to carefully consider these options.

Starvation Diet

Before you start wondering W*F this is – let me tell you that this IS an actual form of diet. Also known as the 5:2 diet, this is based on something called intermittent fasting. It involves eating normally for five days a week and “fasting” for two. On those two fasting days, you eat about a quarter of your typical calorie intake – 500 calories for women and 600 calories for men. The rest of the time you can eat whatever you want.  According to reports, Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda lost 18 kgs in 28 days for Sarabjit to look skinny. But take note – his starvation diet was supervised by a doctor.

Popcorn & Orange Juice Diet

A couple of years back, it was reported that 90s Bollywood actress, Raveena Tandon lost oodles of weight by following an unusual popcorn & juice diet and so did Kareena Kapoor when she was shooting for Tashan. Remember her famous size zero phase? So, corn contains a lot of fibre but too much of it blocks the absorption of vitamin B in the body. This may lead to skin problems, memory loss and low energy levels and once you stop the diet, there’s a tendency for you to gain back the weight again. So once again, consult your doctor!

So this IS by far the most popular weight loss method adopted by the likes of Priyanka Chopra, Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Alia Bhatt & Parineeti Chopra. Plopped over the Corinthian Alps of Austria, Viva Mayr Clinic has become a getaway for these Bollywood celebrities when it comes to weight loss. But this place has the strictest diet ever. For eg. stale bread, underground food like sweet potato, beetroot, alkaline cuisine and no sugar. Also, mobile phones are not allowed, there’s no WiFi at this place and dinnertime ends at 7.00pm. The diet is supposed to give you diarrhea to get rid of toxic wastes. There are also a number of body treatments that happens there – like colon cleansing, detoxifying massages etc.

There’s a spa that offers facials, skin peels, body firming, manicure, pedicure, scrubs etc. And a gym and fitness area for guests to work out. Basically a customised diet & exercise programme is compiled for every guest after a medical supervision once you check into the retreat and when you check out, you are supposedly in your ‘purest body form’.  It costs a couple of lakhs for a ten day stay.

Well, so these were some crazy ideas but I’d suggest only try these unusual techniques after you’ve attempted the ‘normal’ ways of losing weight like exercising, yoga & pilates. If you still find yourself not achieving your desired results, consult a fitness professional. Don’t just blindly ape these Bollywood celeb methods of losing weight. Get a dietician or doctor who can recommend a plan suits you.
